• Back in February, we were so lucky to have Paige and Kurt spend their special day with us! Their day is one we will always remember, so we decided to put them in the spotlight one more time. Paige and Curt were so generous to answer some questions for us about their love story, and they were even kind enough to say some nice things about The Renaissance! Their Richmond wedding was definitely one to remember.

Let’s start at square one of their fairytale. Paige and Kurt shared how they met and their first date with us!

“We met at bar trivia. Kurtis was the host and I was there with friends. At the end of trivia (my team lost horribly) I gave him my number and he texted me the next day to ask me out. Our first date was supposed to be at an oyster bar, but when we got there they were having a private event so the restaurant was closed to the public. We ended up going to a Mexican restaurant across the street and then went to a bar nearby for drinks.”

Reminiscing on their big day, Paige and Kurt shared their favorite memory overall and their favorite memory  at The Renaissance.

“My favorite memory of our wedding day was the few minutes we got alone after the ceremony and before the reception. We had a little tray of food and some champagne to enjoy each other’s company before being totally overwhelmed all over again. My favorite memory of the Renaissance was actually our exit! That grand staircase gave us some of our favorite pictures from our bubble send off! So beautiful!”

Let’s talk honeymoons! Lucky for this couple, they spent their first vacation together as newlyweds soaking up the sunshine and exploring in Costa Rica!

“We went to Costa Rica on our honeymoon. We had a rental car and went all over the place. We did a few days hiking around their active volcano, a few days in the city and a few days on the beach. It was perfect.”

Having been engaged for a little over a year, Paige shared with us the story behind Kurt “popping the question”, her answer is adorable!

“Kurtis knows how important family is to me, so he chose thanksgiving to propose because we were spending the day with my family. It didn’t hurt that for family events I always tried a little harder to look “cute”. At Thanksgiving Kurtis realized just how many people there were that year for the festivities and decided to wait until we got back to my parents house. As soon as we got to my parents house I announced that it was comfy time! Kurtis so sweetly said, don’t you want to wait a minute to get settled in? I absolutely did not and immediately washed all my makeup off and changed into pajamas, aka an oversized T-shirt and gym shorts. We started playing a game called One night Ultimate Werewolf, where you have to close your eyes and be quiet waiting on everyone to make their moves. We all had our eyes closed and Kurtis tries to hold my hand and starts talking and I say shh! don’t be a cheater, my sister says Paige you might want to open your eyes, and there was Kurtis on one knee. All of the pictures of him proposing I’ve got my hair in a messy bun and an old t shirt on but it was absolutely perfect for us.”

Engagement, marriage, honeymoon, what’s next? We asked Paige and Kurt what they are most looking forward to now that they’re married, we were dying to know especially because life as a married couple is so exciting!

“Nothing really, we had but all the major milestones completed prior to marriage. So now we’re just living life and enjoying our time together. The discounted insurance is a plus though!”

Lastly, they finished our little questionnaire with the perfect piece of advice for an engaged couple.

“My advice to anyone getting married is to do whatever feels right for you. Don’t let anyone else make decisions for you, and don’t base your decisions on someone else’s opinion. Everyone told me this but I didn’t listen! It’s your big day, and nothing else matters. Oh, and don’t forget to eat before the wedding! With everything going on the day of its east to forget.”

Thanks so much to Paige and Kurt for choosing to have your special day at The Renaissance, you two make such a beautiful couple and we wish you the best!
